If a student's school has overall for ELA and Math, BPS will use the Overrall score that school provide. And If the school don't have Overrall score for the subject, BPS will average out all standard scores from that subject to get an average for that Subject for that term. Am I correct?

I have a question about a student who is in the highest grade in his school, he needs to go to another school anyway next year. Even whose GPA is greater than B and in the applicant pool for the exam schools, this student needs to apply another non-exam school in Jan. Is my understanding correct? Thank you.
Barry Kaufman
01:09:03

Question: How will the schools send out the notification letter, email or regular mail?
Barry Kaufman
01:11:50
@lily - yes, students in the highest grade at their current school will need to apply for a new school for next year and will receive choice forms in January. If the student is part of the exam applicant pool, the 3 exam schools will show up on their choice form (along with non-exam school options). Students should feel free to rank both exam and non-exam options based on preference
Grace Lin

I have a follow question Barry Kaufman, I’m not sure if it fair that some children have been doing advanced work since 4th grade and in a sense working harder. and now their grade will not weigh any different from children who never took advanced work. Is there a way to make adjustments to the process?
Barry Kaufman
01:21:00
@Reggie - we will be collecting grades from charter school applicants in January. Maria Vieira will be reaching out to the charter schools directly to collect their grades
Barry Kaufman
01:22:13
@Shelley Liu - We will reach out private, parochial, and charter schools directly for student grade data. Maria Vieira will collect the grades from the school

Has the team run through the process using student GPA, ZipCode, and school choice rank data based on prior year(s) to see how this process works and what the results look like? If yes, is this data that can be shared with families? I would be interested to know if the top 20% of students all have the 12 GPA and how many GPA 12 and GPA 11 fall into the 80% group.
